INDIANAPOLIS, IND., Jan. 22, 2008 – Carrier's new Edge thermostat combines powerful technology and systems integration with the latest in home thermostat style and fashion. Launched at the 2007 International Builders Show, the Edge was the first line of thermostats in the industry designed to function not only as a comfort control device but also as a design accessory. Carrier Corp. is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
Carrier designed the line of Edge thermostats to integrate with any home dcor, borrowing the sleek design from high-end picture frames. Interchangeable faceplates are available in silver metallic, espresso leather, gold luster, saddle-brush, onyx, quartz and natural wood grain finishes, and easily snap on to create a new look. The outside cover protects a sophisticated internal design, featuring chrome detail on the backlit buttons. Chrome beading surrounds the display.
Similar to high-tech cell phones that offer numerous features in a compact device, the Edge thermostat's expanded functionality is contained in one of the thinnest profiles available, measuring just eight-tenths of an inch when installed un-stacked.
Edge thermostats make it easy to adjust the indoor temperature and maximize personal comfort. For easy night-time viewing, they feature large, backlit displays showing the indoor temperature, outdoor temperature and time. The line also includes optional, programmable solutions when the Edge Expansion Port (ExP™) technology is installed, giving consumers the flexibility to conveniently manage their home's temperature and humidity settings from a personal computer. Because the software is contained in the ExP memory card, there is no need to install software on the computer.
In addition, the Edge line supports HYBRID HEAT® dual fuel systems as well as traditional heating and cooling systems.
Carrier Corporation is the world's largest manufacturer of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment. It is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX), provider of a broad range of high–technology products and support services to the aerospace and building systems industries.
