Carrier Launches Industry–Leading Platform of Cooling Products for 2006

Newly Redesigned Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps Meet Energy Efficiency Standards and Bring Aesthetically Pleasing Design to Marketplace

ORLANDO, FLA., Jan. 11, 2006 – Raising the bar for what is standard in residential HVAC equipment, Carrier Corporation, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), today introduced its newly redesigned family of heat pumps and air conditioners at the 2006 International Builder's Show. Carrier, the world leader in heating and air conditioning, revamped its product offering with innovative new designs, offering peak performance and energy savings to keep up with the needs of homeowners today.

"Carrier has a long tradition of investing in product reliability and quality improvements to show unmatched expertise in the HVAC industry: said Halsey Cook, president, Carrier Residential and Light Commercial, North America. "From performance to aesthetics, every Carrier system is designed, engineered, and manufactured to cement its image as the leader in home heating and cooling."

New Look For A New Year

Homeowners are continuously looking for new ways to improve the appearance of the home. From toasters to telephones, and now to HVAC systems, home appliances have been redesigned to be more visually satisfying. Carriers new 2006 product platform gives its top quality products a sleek new design.

Carrier heat pumps and air conditioners are loaded with features that will enhance consumers home, yard and life. The new line of products comes equipped with the WeatherArmor Ultra™ coating protection package—solid, durable sheet metal construction and two-toned complete coverage powder paint to protect against rusting and chipping in bad weather conditions. Appliance style fit and finish gives Carrier products a sleeker look while integrated louvered panels present an enhanced appearance over traditional wire panels. The new curved fan grille presents a more aesthetically pleasing and design-forward look.

Raising the Standards

Like many consumer products that use energy, air conditioners and heat pumps are manufactured to meet or exceed minimum efficiency standards set by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). On January 23, the DOE will raise its minimum energy efficiency standards from 10 SEER to 13 SEER. Carrier has developed a new comprehensive 13 SEER cooling platform, which offers consumers energy savings of 23% over the current 10 SEER models. With products ranging from 13 to 21 SEER, Carrier maintains the largest product offering in the industry. With sky rocketing energy prices, consumers will reap the cost effective benefits of a 13 SEER air conditioner or heat pump with each month's utility bills.

Carrier's new platform features more efficient use of refrigerant and space. The new units require 20% less space, weigh 30% less and require 40% less refrigerant than current 13 SEER models. For the homeowner, that means a less obtrusive unit with a smaller footprint in the backyard.

Carrier products will have a huge impact not only on energy savings, but on environmental responsibility. Carrier is a step ahead in the phase out of ozone-depleting R-22 refrigerants slated for 2010. In 1996, Carrier introduced Puron®, the environmentally sound refrigerant of the future. To prevent further depletion of the earth's ozone layer, more than 20 Carrier products will use Puron Refrigerant which will help homeowners prepare for the elimination of R-22 in 2010.
