Jacobs Heating and Air Conditioning

2011 President’s Award Spotlight

Carrier Corp. proudly presents the 2011 President’s Award to Jacobs Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. This is their third year in a row winning this prestigious award.  Through their professionalism and high level of customer service, Jacobs Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. truly exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding contractor.

Jacobs Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. starts each day from its Portland, Oregon office, warehouse and fabrication facility striving to be the best commercial and residential heating and air conditioning company on the planet. The best service. The best quality. The best price.

The company traces its roots back to 1952 and its founder to a WWII-era government blimp factory in nearby Tillamook, Oregon. With the military spending on the decline and blimps falling out of favor, brothers Basil and Lawrence Jacobs turned their sheet-metal fabrication expertise from supporting the troops abroad to supporting them and their families at home. The brothers began Jacobs Sheet Metal as a three-man shop specializing in residential installations and service of gas and oil fired furnaces, converting homes from coal and wood burning fuels. The 1960’s saw Jacobs’ expansion into the commercial market, sending business skyrocketing. Opportunities all along the West Coast - from Alaska to California - presented themselves, energized by the oil boom of the 70’s and the increased focus on environmental pollution control. A second location in Richland, Washington was added to service the growth of the nearby Hanford Nuclear Reservation.

The 80’s saw Basil and Lawrence each take a location, with Basil assuming control of the Portland site. Two of Basil’s four sons, Brent and Greg, showed interest in the trade and joined their father in the business. Always looking to expand the Company’s market share (and their paychecks), Brent and Greg refocused energy back to the residential roots of Jacobs, developing the networking, lead generation and customer follow-up system still in use today and admired region-wide. Brent carries on the tradition as the Company’s second-generation President of Jacobs Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc., leading the 80 employee strong company as it strives each day to deliver the best service, the best quality and the best price on the planet.

“Carrier President’s Award recipients focus on delivering exceptional products and service to customers while appropriately leveraging the value and trust behind America’s first, true HVAC brand. Their successes often exceed our expectations. It’s our privilege to honor them,” said Bob McDonough, president, Residential and Commercial Systems, Carrier Corp. “Winners will enjoy added rewards in the form of support from the Carrier family exclusive to President’s Award recipients, and therefore, continue to shape, grow and succeed in their business.”
